2009 WAS A VERY SPECIAL YEAR...

Leslie W Saer (Sammy) completed 50 years service with WA Church (Bures) Ltd and was put forward to the Suffolk Show Committee for a long service award, which I am delighted to say they accepted, and on the 27th May 2009 Sammy was presented with his award by the Duke of Kent.
Some four years earlier David Rutt (pictured) was also proposed for a long service award and received his 50 year service award from the Duke of Gloucester in June 2005.
Both of these gentlemen started work straight from the local school here in Bures aged 14 / 15 under the employment of Douglas and Leslie Church. Then Anthony, Brian and Christopher Church along with John Ineson and Edgar Warden and more recently the fourth generation of the Church family.
Over the years both David & Sammy have had all sorts of seeds and spices given to them to clean, examples of which are Red & White Clover, Trefoil, Heather, Star Aniseed, Pepper, Cumin & Watercress.
Both men are highly skilled and talented seed machinists and all of the Church family are extremely grateful for their long and loyal service. Luckily they still live in the village and keep an eye on “the young un’s” to carry on their skills and we look forward to seeing them for many more years.
